So, once again, victory is mine.... maybe.

One of the reasons the wife and I have been posting so sparsely is that I've been having terrible problems with my new computer. Yes, I just got the mobo/proc/ram combination replaced, and yes, I payed a pretty penny for it. But about 1.5 months after I got it (one month warranty from the resaler, natch) it started giving me errors every few times I started up. I had to reset the bios every time that happened. It would lose any custom settings and go back to defaults. Since I have no floppy drive (what can I say? Steve Jobs was right.), it would freak out every time. It took a while for me to do anything about it, since I'm lazy and it was only a few times. I figured the power supply was probably flaky and started looking for a good replacement. Then it went to starting bad every time, and inside of a week, it wouldn't start at all.

It wasn't the end of the world, as I set up the laptop to connect to our dsl, but there wasn't much room for it on the desk, and that sucked. So, finding out that the cmos battery on most modern mobos is pretty much a watch battery, and that this board has a reputation for flaky batteries, I grabbed one from the hardware store. Of course, it turns out to be the same brand as the one in there. I put the new one in. Nothing. I weep bitter tears, become depressed, refuse to look at the computer.

After a couple days prodding from dear Sheri who thought it would be a bad idea to tie the thing to the ceiling and turn it into a very expensive roadrunner trap, I went to Radio Shack and bought another battery. Tonight after girding myself with beer, I put it in. And wonder of wonders, everything started right the first time! Huzzah!

The moral of the story?
