you know, it's pretty rare that something freaks me out enough to write my senator. But
this pretty much did it. We've essentially turned camp X-Ray into the Hanoi Hilton. We're torturing American citizens who have no rights and nobody is saying boo about it. Anyway, here's the page for the senate:
http://www.senate.gov/You can look up your senator(s) there and email them. Here's what I wrote:
-------------------------------------
This email is regarding the horrifying allegations put forward by the British newspaper The Mirror in this article:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/page.cfm?objectid=14042696&method=full&siteid=50143
I am struggling with a sense of rage and futility as I write this, but feel the need to attempt to make your office understand the feelings of at least one American about this.
If these allegations are true, this would represent the kind of subversion of American ideals that I think we all wish we had left behind when we broke treaties with Native Americans in order to slaughter them for land rights. The abuse this person claims to have suffered, and seen heaped upon others, is exactly the kind of abuse that we have raged about when we have discovered it used upon Americans in foreign wars. Now we treat our own citizens and citizens of a soverign power that we are not engaged in war with, the same way. This is not just despicable, it is un-American in the best sense of the word.
You will notice, I have qualified much of the statements regarding the allegations. The fact is, I have no idea if they are true or not. But of course, I have no way of knowing if they are true or not. Nor does any other American cizizen, with the exception of the ones interned in camp X-Ray. We are not allowed to know who, how many, why, how long or any other detail of the internment of these forgotten Americans. This lack of representation and oversight runs contrary to the spirit, and possibly the letter, of the entire American judicial system.
You are a voice for the citizens of New York State in the federal government. It is quite possible that New York State residents are among the internees in camp X-Ray. Please do not let them be silenced. Please speak out against the torture of American citizens being done in the name of protecting American citizens.
Thank you for your time.

I'm sure my brother could have written it better, and probably so could I if I had cooled off and edited it a bit but I wanted to do it before I numbed out. I hope you feel the same.
