My new favorite quote comes from the book 'Reefer Madness' by Eric Schlosser, famed author of 'Fast Food Nation'.

"No deity that men have ever worshipped is more ruthless and more hollow than the free market unchecked;"

Right on.

So.......

As Paul noted in an earlier comment, moving is indeed a bitch. It's been a huge uphill struggle this whole time.

First it was that the woman who was going to take our apartment decides that she wants to pull out of the lease she signed, because the management company decided not to let her sublet, like they told us they would do, but to have her sign a new lease, thus getting the vacancy increase (10 percent, I think) right away instead of waiting three months. They tell us this when she applies, but apparently neglect to tell her this until she goes in to sign a lease. She signs it, and the first we hear that it's a suprise to her is when she calls us to ask us to pay the difference in rent for three months. After informing her that we were leaving in part because Sheri was out of work, and that whatever she signed with the management company was none of our business, the management company calls us to tell us that they didn't sign the lease and therefore are obligated to let her out of it if she wants. This a week and a half before we're moving. We've already commited to the new place and we're figuring out what our legal options are if we can't get the old place rented when the agency calls us up and tells us that the woman has decided to take it anyway.

So then I have my last show at Trash, which I already talked about and my second anniversary with Sheri which she talked about. But what I'm saying is that I was busy.

As an aside, let me point out that marrying Sheri was the second best decision I ever made. The first being to try to entice her to my house with an airplane bottle of Icelandic vodka and a Japanese serial-killer movie. I love you baby.

So anyway, I've reserved the truck, and we hired some guys to move us from Craigslist. To be honest, I was a little creeped out by advertising that we needed movers. I had visions of thieves going 'ooh, free stuff!' But Sheri was smart and went with some guys who had references and turned out to be super great and really cheap. (email us if you need thier info) The bad part was that I showed up at the uhaul place and they had no sign of my reservation. So I'm freaking out sideways. They end up getting me a truck, but it's like a 12 foot when I reserved a 17 foot and no hand truck. Luckily, the super lent us a hand truck, and the movers were really pros, but it still took 3 trips and went from an estimated 4 hours to 6 because of the truck. But they kicked ass and didn't complain, and we tipped them everything left of our moving budget. Thank god Helen made a lasagne to bring us on Sun, because we'd be eating maple syrup and water if not for her. (thank you Helen!)

Of course in the two days I took off work, we weren't able to get as much painted as we wanted and we had some serious issues that we're still working out with the kitchen walls, but it's getting there. We spent 5 hours yesterday and I spent 2 hours today on our hands and knees scrubbing the living room floor because it's just filthy. The old lady who lived here before used it as a bedroom, and I don't think she did the floors much. Or more probably, couldn't clean them with the strength needed to get crap out of the crevices of this weird wood-like pattern on the linoleum. So, hands and knees, scrubbrush and bucket, spoon to dig out the crevices. And it's still not as clean as I'd like. I should just replace it, I did floors for a job one summer, but honestly it's more money than I could spend right now.

Still, all told, I'm a lot more optimistic about this place with every day that passes. It's really starting to grow on me. And we still haven't had a chance to sit in the back yard, so that's something to look forward to.

The band is taking a few weeks off for various vacations, which is good because despite the Trash shows being a lot of fun, booking and organizing and moving the equipment on top of my job and preparing to move was really wearing me out. Even with Sheri home doing almost all the packing. Managed to shoot off the rough mixes to cmj, so we'll see if we get in, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm rambling now. I've been scrubbing and putting furniture together all night. I'm going to bed.

Life, you never know when it's going to poke you. hard.
