Agh! The internet burns!

I love seeing famous people around New York. It's my favorite thing in the world. Actually, I don't give a shit, but it's what I feel like writing about right now.

Of course, the act of seeing famous people really depends on what your definition of 'famous' is. Today I saw Kevin Dillon. He's mostly famous for being the brother of Matt Dillon. You may remember him as the kid who looked vaguely like Matt Dillon in 'Heaven Help Us'. Or you may remember his best role as the young amoral psychopath who looked vaguely like Matt Dillon in 'Platoon'. Or, more probably, you may not remember him at all.

It's an odd twist of my brain that I can remember and recognize these b-level stars and should in no way be confused with a skill, or ability, or superpower or whatever. This is definitely due to some kind of defect. Certainly, others don't care to share it. Sheri, for instance. For instance, this is the conversation we had about it. Actually, this is only Sheri's side of it, because you can fill in the rest:

"I don't know who that is"

"I didn't see that"

"I didn't see that either"

"I don't really care"

"Seriously, don't bother, I don't care"

Well, that's the life of a guy who knows who b-level stars are for you. Pretty glamorous, eh?

Warning, this post will contain several non-sequitors. Deal.

So my excuse for not posting for a week this time is that we were in New Mexico on dialup. And drunk. A lot.

But that's just fine. Sheri rocked me with a two-fisted punch of comedy dvds and I'm going to be spending the next few days immersed in them, so you might not hear much from me then, either.

And as she pointed out we are officially the crazy aunt/uncle to Holly Lee Saunders born 11:30 Dec 27th. From all reports mom and babe are fine and all is well. I got a couple pics today in the mail and I'll post em later, but my brother looks a little shell-shocked. I guess that's normal. Myself, I'm very excited.

I was all intimidated by valium, but it turns out it's totally pussy.

Best seen in New Mexico: A sign on a resteraunt that said "Now Serving Carbon!". I stil don't know what they were trying to say.

My pal John in New Mexico got married to the charming Laura the day we arrived. We missed the ceremony, but sat down for drinks among their many fluffy cats and characteristic too much goddam space for the rent house. They're just lovely people and it made me miss living near them.

Watched some movies out there in the desert, here's some thoughts:

Napoleon Dynamite: Great acting couldn't cover the complete lack of originality to this wannabe. Should've been titled Welcome to the Ghostworld of Rubin and Ed.

Darkness: Great mood and killer cinematography didn't entirely make up for the total lack of decent plot, but almost. Glad I saw it.

Spongebob Squarepants: The lesbian seen was really, really hot, but when Amber Nipples came in dressed like a Ponygirl, it made my top ten.

Spongenurse Hotpants: Uh, I might have gotten this confused with the previous one.

Paycheck: Despite the fact that Phillip K Dick was one of the greatest writers of our age, the phrase 'Based on a story by Phillip K Dick', has always been movie lover code for "run, run far and fast". John Woo does absolutely nothing to change this. Shame, really.

Topless Schoolgirls from Panty Acadamy Vs. the Monkey Robots of Death: Yeah, I made it up. Don't you wish.

And finally, I'd like to conclude this mess of a post with a really, really wonderful quote from one of my personal heroes James Randi:

"A lot of people hate my skepticism, and I think I understand why. The psychics offer wonders and endless possibilities in a world that often seems difficult and mundane. They promise health, wealth, wisdom, eternal life. But if you examine the record, it's not the psychics but the hard-nosed scientists who have actually delivered the things that improve human life. And, to me, science describes a world far more interesting than any psychic fantasy. It's a good world — not perfect — but it's ours. So we'd better learn to live with it, the way it is."

Amen.

Life, you never know when it's going to poke you. hard.
